The Shadow Scholar

Scary, yet I imagine I can think of a few students in my classes who have used this tactic already.

I’ve written toward a master’s degree in cognitive psychology, a Ph.D. in sociology, and a handful of postgraduate credits in international diplomacy. I’ve worked on bachelor’s degrees in hospitality, business administration, and accounting. I’ve written for courses in history, cinema, labor relations, pharmacology, theology, sports management, maritime security, airline services, sustainability, municipal budgeting, marketing, philosophy, ethics, Eastern religion, postmodern architecture, anthropology, literature, and public administration. I’ve attended three dozen online universities. I’ve completed 12 graduate theses of 50 pages or more. All for someone else.

You’ve never heard of me, but there’s a good chance that you’ve read some of my work. I’m a hired gun, a doctor of everything, an academic mercenary. My customers are your students. I promise you that. Somebody in your classroom uses a service that you can’t detect, that you can’t defend against, that you may not even know exists.

I do a lot of work for seminary students. I like seminary students. They seem so blissfully unaware of the inherent contradiction in paying somebody to help them cheat in courses that are largely about walking in the light of God and providing an ethical model for others to follow. I have been commissioned to write many a passionate condemnation of America’s moral decay as exemplified by abortion, gay marriage, or the teaching of evolution. All in all, we may presume that clerical authorities see these as a greater threat than the plagiarism committed by the future frocked.

Searching for Muses: Jesus on the Argo?

How did someone find my blog today?  They searched for “Jason and the Argonauts meet Jesus?” and somehow, by some unexplored realm of the interwebs, they came to find this blog.

Surprise! U.S. Conservatives at Odds with Vatican Over Condoms

Well, it was expected.  The Catholic Church changed its mind?!  But that means it might be fallible!  So…clearly, we should all ignore it ever happened…  At least this is the position that many conservative Catholics have taken.  Nevermind that many positions held by modern Catholics reflect the instituted changes over a long period of time (much of the CCC is revised theology and dogmatic law based on modern understandings of religion, faith, society, science, and history), the Church (ergo, the Pope) is infallible and thus it cannot change its mind (or, rather, the Pope can’t alter dogma).

NEW YORK — Faced with a changing outlook from Pope Benedict XVI on condoms and their role in preventing the spread of HIV, many prominent conservative Roman Catholics in the U.S. are rejecting the Vatican’s own explanation of what the pope said.

Several orthodox Catholics said they would only accept a more formal papal pronouncement. Others insisted that journalists were purposely misrepresenting Benedict’s comments. Some questioned whether the papal spokesman, the Rev. Frederico Lombardi, accurately quoted the pope.

Bishops and the experts who advise them were scrambling to make sense of the news.

“It’s a mess,” said John Haas, president of the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia, which advises church leaders, hospitals and Vatican offices. “I’m not ready to say that the pope said what Lombardi said.”

Religious do not have Monopoly on Virtue, Queen tells Synod

People of faith do not have a monopoly on virtue as British society was now “more diverse and secular”, the Queen told the Church of England today in an address to its governing body.

Speaking at Church House, central London, she told members of General Synod that believers and atheists were equally able to contribute to the prosperity and wellbeing of the country.

The Queen, who is supreme governor of the Church of England, said: “In our more diverse and secular society, the place of religion has come to be a matter of lively discussion. It is rightly acknowledged that people of faith have no monopoly of virtue and that the wellbeing and prosperity of the nation depend on the contribution of individuals and groups of all faiths and none.”

Back-Stabbing and Gossip: Prep School Depravity

One thing about back-stabbing…eventually, the knife changes hands.  Like lying, you will be caught and, when that happens, your integrity is forever gone.

(Nov. 23) — America’s elite prep schools may be portrayed as envious, insidious bastions of backstabbing politics on television, but in the real world they sometimes turn out to be — well, pretty much the same.

Connecticut’s famous Choate Rosemary Hall, once home to JFK, Ivanka Trump, Edward Albee and others, has become embroiled in a Facebook scandal that seems ripped from an episode of “Gossip Girl,” The Daily Beast’s Lynnley Browning reports. A group of Choate students are in serious trouble after posting flames to a 200-page private Facebook thread titled “Mwaahhahaha,” where they attacked other students and bragged about drinking and taking drugs.

“You know it is possible to say no when someone tries to have sex with you. Just throwing that out there. Like no is still an option, you whore,” read one post.

Actor Michael Brea Slays Mother for Being a ‘Sinner’

First, I’ll be the first to admit that fervent belief or faith has a few positive connections; this is not one of them:

Convinced his church-going mom was possessed by Satan, a Scripture-spouting killer hacked her to death with a 3-foot sword as she knelt in their apartment, police sources said.

Deranged killer Michael Brea “told the doctors that he saw the Devil, and that the Devil was somehow in his mother,” a police source told the Daily News after the gruesome slaying.

Neighbors insisted the brutal killing of Yannick Brea early Tuesday occurred as police ignored their desperate demands to kick in the dying woman’s front door.

Yannick Brea, 55, was found kneeling – as if offering a final prayer – after she was butchered during her son’s demented diatribe about repentance, police said.

“Sinner! Sinner!” howled Michael Brea, a bit-part actor who once appeared on “Ugly Betty,” neighbors and police sources said. “You never accepted Jesus!”
